6 times outright winners of the Best Holiday Centre category of Great Yarmouth and Gorleston in Bloom is quite an achievement for a small Park such as Elm Beach. Made all the better as we beat off competition from the major, and a lot bigger, Parks in the area! Covid 19 has postponed the competition for the past couple of years but, who knows, we could have the cup on display again soon 😁 Scroll down to the bottom to view slideshows of our displays.
As in previous years when we have entered into the Gt Yarmouth & Gorleston In Bloom competition, every plant has been brought, planted and raised by Elm Beach; or, more precisely, by our very own Norma and Terry. Full credit must go to them for their tireless efforts not only in getting the little blighters planted in the first place, but for keeping them alive from May through to September (there’s a song in there somewhere). As you can appreciate, a lot of hard work goes into maintaining the display but the comments we receive from holiday-makers and visitors to the Park has made it all worthwhile. Comments have ranged from WOW! to UNBELIEVABLE!! to mouth open, speechless and gazing in awe.
Every single plant is brought in either as a ‘plug’ or at the 3 inch pot stage then replanted into troughs, pots and anything else we can lay our hands on. The daunting task of watering, feeding, getting them to grow and, probably hardest of all considering our unpredictable weather, keeping them alive, starts and continues through to September. Norma & Terry will readily admit that they are not ‘gardeners’ but to achieve the fantastic results we’ve seen over the years, suggests their fingers might just have a faint green tinge to them.
Our success in the Gt Yarmouth & Gorleston In Bloom competition has been quite remarkable in the years we’ve entered. Considering we are up against the 'big' Parks, some of whom employ staff just to tend their gardens and most of whom buy in their displays ready made, we have done pretty well :-
